| Hotel Dilino (Dilino is the greek word to name
the beautiful orange coloured horizon during sunset on sea) lies
very calm and quiet in the middle of a hill in a small but beautiful
garden viewing southwest to the sandy beach of Agios Prokopios
which is about 300 m away. The village nearby (also named like the
beach: Agios Prokopios) is situated approximately 4 km south of
Naxos-Town. There are shops and tavernas which also could be reached
in about 300 m. A bus stop is close to the hotel (150 m) and offers
the possibility to go other beaches or to Naxos-Town.

The Island of Naxos
|
|
When arriving at the port of Naxos-Town (greek:
Naxos-Chora) by boat one can see white cubic encapsulated houses
on a hill reaching up to a venetian castle: Cycladic architecture
par excellence!
|
|
|
|
On the horizon a chain of wild, brown mountains
climbing up to a heigth of 1,000 m in only about 5 to 7 km distance
from the sea! Naxos not only is the biggest and most mountainous
island of the Cyclades. This montains catch the clouds and rain
will fall mostly in winter and mainly in the highlands between mount
Zeus (1,001 m - the highest mountain of the Cyclades) and mount
Koronos (997m) and irrigate the valleys surrounding Naxos-Town.
Therefore Naxos also is the most fertile island of the Cyclades
which gives it a piece of independence from the mainland. |
Naxos offers a lot of hiking
possiblities (like the ascension to mount Zeus with its beautiful
views all over the island and the surrounding Aegean Sea) but
also marvelous and long white and sandy beaches with crystall-clear
water situated south of the main town. ( See Impressions
